Mumbai: Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has received a threatening voice message on WhatsApp in which the sender allegedly demanded crores of rupees, according to police sources. The incident comes just days after a shooting outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence, raising concerns about the safety of prominent film personalities.
The threatening message, sent from an unidentified number, was reportedly a voice note in which extortion demands were made to Singh, according to an India Today report. The sender claimed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, the report claims.
The Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch has launched an investigation to trace the sender and ascertain the motive behind the message.
Mumbai Police officials confirmed that they have stepped up security around Ranveer Singh’s residence as a precautionary measure while the probe continues. Investigators are examining whether the threat is linked in any way to the recent firing incident outside Rohit Shetty’s house or to organised extortion networks.
Authorities have stated that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the actor’s safety and that the investigation remains active. So far, no arrests have been announced and there has been no public statement from Singh or his team regarding the threat.
