The Employees' Provident Fund Organization is preparing to launch a new dedicated mobile app in March-April 2026. This will allow direct transfer of PF funds to bank accounts via UPI.
This is a big relief for millions of EPFO employees. Now, withdrawing their PF funds will no longer require long waits or lengthy paperwork. The Employees' Provident Fund Organization is preparing to launch a new dedicated mobile app in March-April 2026. This will allow direct transfer of PF funds to bank accounts via UPI. So, let's take a look at the EPFO's new app and what features it will offer.
The new EPFO app will be different from Umang.
According to officials, this new app will be different from the existing Umang app. It will be directly linked to the subscriber's bank account and will work with other UPI apps, including BHIM. Its purpose is to provide a completely banking-level facility for PF withdrawals. Under the new system, funds will be transferred directly from the EPFO account to the subscriber's linked bank account. Members can then withdraw funds instantly by entering their UPI PIN. Currently, this feature is not available, and PF withdrawals require filing claims through the UAN portal or the Umang app, which is time-consuming.
System in Trial Mode
EPFO has begun testing this new feature. Testing is currently underway on approximately 100 dummy accounts to ensure technical glitches can be addressed in a timely manner. Officials say that once testing is complete, the app may be rolled out by the end of March.
How much PF can be withdrawn?
According to regulations, members can withdraw a maximum of 75 percent of their EPF balance. The remaining 25 percent will be required to be kept in the account to ensure retirement funds are protected. The same rules will apply in case of job loss. Furthermore, the remaining 25% of PF can only be withdrawn after a certain period of time.
The new app will offer these special features:
- Instant PF withdrawals via UPI
- Separate information on the eligible balance and the minimum balance
- Real-time claim status
- Auto-settlement facility up to Rs 5 lakh
- Digital KYC and self-correction feature
- Services like passbook and balance check
- AI-based multilingual support
A major step towards EPFO 3.0
This new app is part of the EPFO 3.0 upgrade, which emphasizes digital claims, fast verification, and easy services. The EPFO has a total corpus of approximately ₹26 lakh crore and has approximately 300 million subscribers, of which approximately 75 million are active members. Furthermore, it is believed that the new UPI facility will make it much easier and faster to withdraw PF funds in case of illness, marriage, education, or any emergency.
