Ashwin on Usman Tariq: Team India has to play against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2026 on 15 February. But, before that, Ashwin has given a big statement regarding the controversial bowler of Pakistan. Controversial Pak bowler here means Usman Tariq, whose bowling action is constantly being questioned. Ashwin has given a blunt answer to those who questioned his same action. According to Ashwin, if Usman Tariq has to be targeted then the rules of cricket will have to be changed first.
Ashwin's bluntness after Srivatsa's simple aim
Ashwin gave his answer to the question raised by former Indian cricketer Shrivatsa Goswami regarding Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq. Raising questions on Usman Tariq, Shrivats Goswami wrote on his X handle - Even in football, stopping before taking a penalty runup is not allowed. How can this thing be considered correct in cricket? Actions are right but stopping? That too at the time of releasing the ball from the hand. Seriously this can't work in cricket.
Even football doesn't allow players to pause during a penalty run-up anymore. How is this ok? Action – all good. But pause? That too while loading to deliver. This cant be continued seriously! #WorldCup2026 pic.twitter.com/gIgsjV7RlX

It is clear that Shrivats Goswami is not averse to the bowling action of Pakistan bowler Usman Tariq. The problem is that while bowling, he stops before leaving the ball from his hand. But, Ashwin does not find even that problem a problem. He took on Shrivats Goswami and defended the Pakistani spinner.
What did Ashwin say about Usman Tariq?
While replying to Shrivats Goswami, Ashwin wrote on his X handle - Agreed that stopping in football is not allowed. But is it right for a batsman to switch hit or reverse without informing the umpire or bowler, when he knows that he has to bat from one side only? Why should the ban always be limited to bowlers only? Why are bowlers not allowed to change arms without informing the umpire? First of all they should change these rules of cricket.
Agree football doesn't allow it!
While the batter can be allowed to switch hit or reverse without informing the umpire or bowler, after him/her commits to start batting on one side, why are the restrictions only limited to the bowler?
In fact the bowler isnt allowed to change https://t.co/AOV4OKhwcL

Usman Tariq has taken 11 wickets in 4 matches
Usman Tariq remains a mystery for the batsmen due to his new and unique bowling action. The result of that is that he has taken 11 wickets in the 4 T20 International matches played so far for Pakistan. Usman Tariq will play the 5th match of his career against India. It remains to be seen how successful he is against the Indian batsmen who are adept at playing spin.
