New Delhi: Mumbai introduced India’s first ‘musical road’ as a stretch of the Mumbai Coastal Road that will play music while vehicles drive over it. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the initiative on Wednesday, February, at 12:30 pm.

The musical road has been made on the northbound lane from Nariman Point towards Worli. Special grooves have been laid over a 500-meter stretch on the first lane next to the divider after making way out of the Worli tunnel.

When vehicles travel at a speed of 70-80 kmph over these grooves, the tune of the popular ‘Jai Ho’ from Slumdog Millionaire will be heard inside the vehicle.

The grooves known as ‘rumble strips’ have been laid at proper intervals and fixed measurements, confirmed by the BMC. They also explained how the tune will be produced, as the friction between the tyres and the road surface will produce the tune.

Signboards have been installed inside the tunnel at 60, 100, and 500 meters to alert motorists in advance. The initiative was proposed by former MP Rahul Sherwale.
