Do you start your day with coffee? Then there may be good news for you. A new research has revealed that drinking coffee daily can reduce the risk of dementia. This claim has been made on the basis of a study conducted on a large population over a long period of time, which has attracted people’s attention.
Scientists say that caffeine in limited quantities can help in maintaining better brain function. However, experts also make it clear that drinking too much is not beneficial. In such a situation, first of all let us know what is dementia and how often is it right to drink coffee to reduce it?
What is dementia?
Dementia is not a single disease but a group of symptoms. In this, memory becomes weak, ability to think and understand decreases, there is difficulty in taking decisions and even daily tasks can become difficult. Alzheimer’s is considered to be its most common form. Its risk increases with increasing age, so people are looking for ways to keep the brain healthy for a long time.
What is the connection with coffee?
Scientists studied 131,821 people in 43 years. Researchers found that people who drank limited amounts of caffeinated coffee daily had a lower risk of dementia. Moderate amounts are considered to be approximately 2 to 3 cups of coffee (or 1 to 2 cups of tea). The special thing is that this benefit was not seen in decaf coffee. That is, the role of caffeine is being considered.
How much is it beneficial to drink?
According to research, the risk was found to be somewhat lower in those who consumed at least one cup of caffeinated coffee daily. Those who drank between 1 and 5 cups had a reduced risk of about 15–20%. But drinking more does not double the benefits. Additional benefits stop after a certain limit. That means balance is necessary.
Why could this happen?
Experts believe that the bioactive elements present in coffee can help protect brain cells from damage. They may play a role in reducing inflammation, improving blood flow and keeping neurons active. However, this is still a subject of study and cannot be considered a definitive treatment.
keep this in mind
Drinking coffee does not guarantee complete protection from dementia. But with a balanced lifestyle like eating well, regular exercise, sleep and mental activity, it can become a helpful habit.
