Trump’s claim and America’s displeasure

Let us tell you that last week Donald Trump had announced a framework trade agreement with India. During this time he had claimed that India has agreed not to buy crude oil from Russia. America has been alleging that Russia is using the money it earns from selling oil in the war against Ukraine.

Energy security top priority for 1.4 billion people

Along with Lavrov’s statement, India has also made its position clear on this issue. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said India will buy crude oil from different countries as per its needs and will maintain diversity in sources to keep the supply chain stable. At the same time, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that energy security of 1.4 billion people is the top priority of the government and all agreements with Russia continue as before.

Accused of putting pressure on America

Lavrov accused the US of using tariffs and sanctions to stop Russia’s trade and military cooperation with BRICS countries and India. It is noteworthy that in August 2025, America had imposed 25% extra tariff on India, which was later withdrawn but it was warned that it could be imposed again if the purchase of Russian oil started again. Lavrov believes that after the arrival of the Trump administration, this policy of pressure is becoming more openly visible.
