New Delhi: Eternal founder and vice chairman Deepinder Goyal has made a direct appeal to former employees after being flooded with more than 8,000 rehire emails. The outreach comes weeks after he publicly invited alumni of the company, formerly known as Zomato, to return and help shape its next phase of growth.
In a post on X, Goyal acknowledged the overwhelming response and admitted that he is struggling to personally go through every message. While the company is reviewing all submissions, he said many of the emails carry personal stories and long histories that only he can truly understand.
A quick update on back@eternal.com
Over the last week, we received over 8,000 emails. About 4,000 from people who have been part of the Eternal journey at some point. Rest from people who haven’t worked here but want to. Thank you so much for this. I didn’t expect this at all.…

Over 8,000 emails in a week
Goyal revealed that the company received over 8,000 emails at back@eternal.com within a week of his call. Nearly half of those messages came from former employees who had been part of the Eternal-Zomato journey. The remaining emails were from professionals who had never worked at the company but were eager to join.
He described the emails as deeply emotional and honest. Many referenced moments from five, ten, and even fifteen years ago. However, he pointed out that today’s team may not have the context to fully grasp those experiences.
“The only person who can truly read these emails and know who to respond to is me,” Goyal said. He added that it is not humanly possible for him to quickly read through all 8,000 messages and decide whom to respond to.
‘WhatsApp Me’ appeal to former colleagues
Goyal provided an easy way out to accelerate the process. He requested former employees who have served under him directly and were waiting to hear back to get in touch with him on WhatsApp.
“In case you worked directly with me, and you wrote to me, and you are waiting to hear back, please find my number and WhatsApp me,” he said, showing his impatience to be in touch again.
In the early days of this month, Goyal had left a very emotional post to former employees stating, ‘I want you back.’ He emphasised that Eternal is at a new growth stage and requires individuals that are familiar with its culture and norms. Then he had said, We require individuals who already understand what good looks like here.
Eternal has grown tremendously from Zomato to its initial food delivery business. It currently owns the quick-commerce operations of Blinkit, Blinkit Ambulances, District, Hyperpure, Nugget and Feeding India.
Goyal reckons that this expansion can be significantly contributed to by former employees who have now become professionals and are willing to go back home. In his view, alumni having knowledge of the DNA of the company are in the best positions to assist in pushing the company forward.
