Jorhat: There was a huge protest outside the residence of L.M. Khaute the MLA from Churachandpur asking him to resign. Police had fire in tear gas shells to quell women protestors.
On Thursday a large number of women protesters gathered outside the house of Khaute. They are miffed with the Khaute he took part in the government formation process. The police had fire in tea gas shells to control the protestors.
So far, three of the ten Kuki Zo MLAs -- Nemcha Kipgen, L.M. Khaute and Ngursanglur Sanate -- have been involved in the government formation process.
Of the ten Kuki Zo MLAs, seven belong to the BJP, while the remaining three are affiliated with local Kuki Zo organisations. Kipgen, Khaute and Sanate also virtually attended the seventh session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on February 5.
On February 5, Yumnam Khemchand Singh led NDA government in Manipur won the floor test in Manipur assembly.
Yumnam moved the motion of confidence, MLAs from valley and Naga inhabited areas were present however some MLAs virtually participated in assembly proceedings.

The situation in the mountainous areas remains tense, and security forces are making efforts to bring the situation under control, the police officer said, adding that additional security personnel, including central paramilitary forces, have been deployed in sensitive areas.
The 26 month long ethnic violence which has not touched the Naga inhabited areas of Manipur has finally engulfed the Naga inhabited Ukhrul. The state government on Tuesday suspended internet services in the hill district for five days.
In the last three days over 30 houses along with other properties have been burnt in the village in the last three days following the alleged assault of a Tangkhul Naga community member by Kuki community members.
