Two free agents Tottenham could still sign to keep them up after Raheem Sterling decision

Tottenham Hotspur may explore the free agent market to tackle the injury crisis currently plaguing them during the closing stages of the campaign.

Spurs are presently without 11 first-team squad members due to various injuries, ranging from hamstring strains to ACL ruptures, with these absences clearly impacting Tottenham's on-field performances. At present, Spurs find themselves languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table, merely five points above the drop zone.

Whilst the club searches for a new head coach after the exit of Thomas Frank - who departed on Wednesday morning following a disappointing run of results - the Tottenham hierarchy may also consider exploring the market for emergency additions ahead of their remaining 12 Premier League fixtures.

While Raheem Sterling appeared available for a transfer after his Chelsea departure, the former Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City winger has opted to join Feyenoord instead, teaming up with Robin van Persie's outfit until the end of the season, reports football.london.

Here, Express Sport examines several players who are currently without a club and could potentially prove suitable options for Spurs...

Ryan Kent

A Liverpool academy product who never truly got the opportunity to flourish in the Premier League, Ryan Kent established his reputation with Rangers between 2019 and 2023 - guiding the Glasgow club to a Scottish Premiership title and a Scottish Cup during a period largely dominated by Celtic.

A four-year contract with Fenerbahce followed, though he lasted merely 12 months with the Turkish club before his deal was terminated by mutual consent. While Kent spent a season-long spell with Seattle Sounders in 2025, he has been without a club since January.

A quick left-winger with nimble footwork, Kent could be precisely what Spurs require to strengthen their forward options.

Jesse Lingard

With James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski all currently unavailable, Spurs might also consider reinforcing their midfield for the campaign's second half. He may be 33 and approaching the latter stages of his career, but Jesse Lingard could still represent a credible option in the short term.

Without a club since parting ways with FC Seoul in December, the midfielder has already demonstrated he possesses Premier League calibre through productive spells with Manchester United, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest.

While his age might raise some questions, Jordan Henderson has continued to deliver numerous Player of the Match-worthy displays with Brentford at 35, whilst 33-year-old Granit Xhaka has arguably been Sunderland's signing of the season.
