Seeing his critical condition, the doctors at the hospital started treatment, but the infection had spread deep into his body. Lakshmi died during treatment on Saturday night.

Medical experts believe that due to excessive infestation of lice, wounds occur on the scalp. Due to repeated scratching, these wounds become deeper and bacteria start growing in them. Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Puri, Dr. Akshay Satpathy said that if timely treatment is not received, it can take the form of 'septicaemia' or blood infection, which proves fatal. Apart from this, the adverse effects of some medicines used to treat lice are also being investigated.
