Salem: Tragedy has struck once again at actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally, with a 37-year-old man from Maharashtra named Suraj collapsed and died during party chief Vijay’s public meeting in Seelanayakkanpatti, Salem in Tamil Nadu, on Friday (February 13).
This marks yet another death at a Vijay’s TVK rally, following the Karur stampede where 41 people—including 18 women and 10 children—were crushed to death or succumbed to injuries. In Karur, the crowd swelled to over double the permitted 10,000 after Vijay’s six-hour delay, leading to chaos as supporters surged forward. Then too, victims collapsed from suffocation and heat.

For the Karur stampede, the TVK is already under intense scrutiny. The Karur stampede, which injured over 80 others, prompted the Supreme Court to order a CBI investigation after Vijay himself sought a transfer from the state SIT . Last month, the actor appeared at the CBI headquarters in Delhi for a second round of questioning.
