The Congress party emerged victorious in Telangana municipal elections, sweeping majority of the municipalities, Tv9 Telugu reported.

Congress secured victories in Neredu Charla, Huzurnagar, Haliya, Kodad, Nandikonda, Chandur, Bhutpur, Dharmapuri, Bheemgal, Bichkunda, Banswada, Yella Reddy, Choppadandi, Sultanabad, Manthani, Husnabad Maripeda, Dornakal, Narayankhed, Ashwaraopet, Station Ghanpur, Andolu-Jogipet, Sadashivpet, Huzurabad, Kollapur, Maddur, Pebberu, Station Ghanpur, Madhira.

BRS: Gaddapotharam, Indresham, Aija, Thorrur, Ibrahimpatnam, Tirumalagiri.

All India Forward Block: Vaddepalli, Jogulamba Gadwal district.

The AIFB won about 8 out of the 10 wards. Interestingly, the candidates of the AIFB were backed by Telangana Jagruthi chief K Kavitha.

Congress makes a clean sweep in Nalgonda district:

Congress won control of all six municipalities in Nalgonda district including Chanduru, Chityala, Devarakonda, Haliya, Miryalaguda, Nandikonda.

In Chityala, Nagila Sudhakar, became the first transgender candidate to be elected as a ward member in Chityala municipality. Sudhakar contested as an independent candidate and defeated the candidates from major political parties. The Congress won 9 out of the 12 wards in Chityala while the BRS secured two seats.

Out of the 2,582 wards in 116 municipalities, Congress sis leading in 825 wards and BRS is leading in 462 wards and BJP in 138 wards.

Hung verdict in Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar:

In Sangareddy district’s Kohir municipality, Congress won 8 seats and BRS 5 seats out of a total of 16 wards. BJP, AIMIM and an independent candidate won one seat each.

A similar situation prevailed in Devarakadra in Mahabubnagar district. Congress won 6 wards and BRS 4 wards out of a total of 12. BJP and others won one seat each. There was no clear lead in Alampur, Kohir, Kesamudram, Asifabad, Amarachinta, Kyatanapalli, Janagama, Jinnaram, Jammikunta, Vemulawada and Raikal municipalities.
