Google on Wednesday announced an update to its search reporting tools aimed at making it easier for people to request the removal of explicit images that contain non-consensual content from search results. According to the Mountain View-based tech giant, the new system is designed to simplify the reporting experience, provide clear guidance, and improve transparency in the removal request process. Users will also be directed to support resources, including organizations that provide emotional and legal support.

Google Simplifies Requests to Remove Explicit Images
The removal process is for victims of non-consensual explicit images and builds on the company's existing suite of protections, such as simplified content removal methods and an improved ranking system. The company stated in a blog post that the new experience will be rolled out in the coming days.

The company has refreshed its reporting experience to make it easier for people to flag explicit images that appear in search results. The updated form features clearer categories, including reporting options for explicit content without consent and deepfake images. Google says this simplified process aims to reduce confusion and help users submit accurate removal requests quickly.

The company has also improved how users can track the status of their submissions. Once a report is filed, users will be able to monitor its progress and receive updates, giving them more information about whether their case is under review or resolved.

How to request the removal of explicit images from Google Search?
Open Google Search and navigate to the image in question.
Click the three-dot menu next to the result.
Select the option related to reporting a legal or policy issue.
Choose the category that best describes the issue, such as Explicit Content Without Consent.
Fill out the removal request form with the required details, including URLs and supporting information.
Submit the form and monitor the status of your request through Google's reporting dashboard.
However, Google reiterated that removing an image from search results does not delete it from the original website hosting the content. If users want to remove the image from the web entirely, they may need to contact the site owner separately.

In addition to this update, Google is also expanding its 'Results about you' tool to provide greater control over sensitive personal details. According to the company, users will be able to find search results containing data such as their driver's license number, passport number, or Social Security number and request their removal. This expanded function will be rolled out in the coming days.
