Aadhaar Lock/Unlock: Nowadays, Aadhaar cards are used for almost every important purpose. They are required for banking, SIM cards, government schemes, and many online services. Therefore, Aadhaar security becomes crucial. Keeping this in mind, UIDAI has introduced the "Aadhaar Lock/Unlock" feature. This feature allows you to decide when your Aadhaar number will be used and when it will not. Let's explore this in detail:

What is the Aadhaar Lock feature?
When you lock your Aadhaar number, no one can verify your identity using your Aadhaar number (UID). This means that authentication via biometric, demographic, or OTP is temporarily disabled. However, you can use your 16-digit Virtual ID (VID) if you wish. The VID is a temporary number linked to Aadhaar and helps secure identity verification.

How to Lock Aadhaar
You can lock Aadhaar in two ways:

First Method: Through the UIDAI Website

First, visit the myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in website.
Select the 'Aadhaar Lock & Unlock' service.
Click on 'UID Lock'.
Enter your Aadhaar number, name, and PIN code.
Select OTP (via SMS) or TOTP from the mAadhaar app.
Enter the OTP and submit.
If successful, you will receive a confirmation message.

Second Method: Through the mAadhaar App
Download the mAadhaar app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Log in with your registered mobile number.
Go to 'Services' and select 'Aadhaar Lock/Unlock'.
Click on 'Lock Aadhaar' and verify with the OTP.

How to Unlock Aadhaar?
If you want to use Aadhaar, you must first unlock it. To do this:

Go to the UIDAI website.
Select the 'Unlock' option.
Enter your latest 16-digit VID.
Enter the OTP or TOTP and submit.
If you don't remember your VID, you can retrieve it via SMS.

The Aadhaar Lock/Unlock feature is an easy way to protect your identity. If you want additional security, you can use this feature.
