NASA and SpaceX sent a new fourmember crew to the International Space Station on Thursday, February 12, marking the start of the station's latest research expedition. The team - NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, along with France's Sophie Adenot and Russia's Andrei Fadyaev - took off from Florida's Kennedy Space Center aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, carried into orbit by a Falcon 9 rocket.
Commander Jessica Meir thanks Nasa, SpaceX and Falcon staff as she jokes that it has been "quite a ride". She said: "Looking at our planet from above it is immediately clear that everything is interconnected. The vast oceans, the continuing landmasses... we are one humankind. We know it is utterly unique, fragile and must be protected. Crew-12 is grateful and ready for the journey ahead."
