Income Tax Refund Status: Is your tax refund stuck? Learn why there's a delay and the easiest way to check its status.

Income Tax Refund Status: If you've been waiting for your income tax refund for the past three months, there's good news for you. The Income Tax Department has now expedited the refund sending process. In the last 48 hours, on February 12th and 13th, a large number of taxpayers have received credits, including large refunds of up to ₹17 lakh.

Income Tax Refund: Why is your refund stuck?

Indeed, the department is now closely cross-checking your data with the AIS (Annual Information Statement). The government is using a new technology called 'SAKSHAM', which aims to detect errors and prevent tax evasion. If any discrepancy is found in your data, the department releases the money only after a thorough investigation.

Income Tax Refund: Which mistakes are costing you dearly?

Delays are often due to technical reasons. If you've properly checked the following points, your refund won't be delayed.

Bank Account Pre-Validation: If your bank account isn't pre-validated on the portal, your refund won't be received.

Name Matching: Your name on your PAN card and bank account must match.

IFSC Code: If your IFSC code has changed due to a bank merger and you've provided the old code, your refund will be delayed.

How to Check Your Refund Status?

Checking your status is very simple:

  • Go to the Income Tax website (incometax.gov.in).
  • Login with your PAN card and password.
  • Go to the 'e-File' section and click on 'Income Tax Returns' and then 'View Filed Returns'.
  • There you will see the latest status of your refund.
