Mahashivratri 2026: The festival of Mahashivratri will be celebrated with reverence and devotion on 15 February 2026. It is believed that the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati took place on this day. Therefore, this day is also considered a symbol of marital happiness and love. On this occasion, devotees observe fast, perform Jalabhishek in temples and offer things made of milk to the Lord. If you also want to make Prasad at home on this Mahashivratri, then instead of traditional Kheer, sweet potato kheer is a great and quick option. Let us know about this recipe in detail.

Material

Sweet potatoes-2 medium sized (boiled and grated)
Full cream milk-1 liter
Sugar-3-4 tbsp
Green cardamom – 3-4 tablespoons (ground)
Cashews-8-10 (chopped)
Almonds-8-10 (chopped)
Raisins-1 tablespoon
Ghee-1 tsp
few saffron threads

Method

  1. First of all, heat some ghee in a pan. Add grated sweet potato to it and fry it lightly for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Now add milk to it and let it boil on medium flame. Cook the milk for 8-10 minutes so that it becomes a little thick.
  3. Now add sugar, cardamom powder and saffron in it. Finally add dry fruits and raisins and cook for 2-3 minutes more. Turn off the gas and let the kheer cool down a little.
  4. If you do not eat sugar during the fast, then you can add jaggery or makhana powder instead of sugar. You can also add 1 teaspoon condensed milk at the end for a richer taste.
