Mumbai: Renowned screenwriter Salim Khan has been admitted to the ICU at Lilavati Hospital following an emergency situation on Tuesday. Dr. Jalil Parkar, who is overseeing his care, provided an update on his condition.
Dr. Parkar confirmed, "It is accurate that Salim Khan, the father of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, was admitted to the ICU early this morning at 8:30 am."
The family doctor, Sandeep Chopra, brought him to the emergency room, where immediate care was initiated before he was transferred to the intensive care unit on the first floor.
A specialized team of doctors, including Dr. Vinay Chavan (neurologist), Dr. Ajit Menon (cardiologist), Dr. Nitin Dange (neurosurgeon), and Dr. Bineet Ahluwalia, is attending to him. Out of respect for the family's wishes, no further details will be disclosed today.
However, a press briefing is scheduled for tomorrow at 11:00 am, where updates will be shared with the consent of the family while ensuring patient confidentiality. Dr. Parkar noted that Salim Khan is stable but remains under close observation.
Earlier, Salim Khan's family, including his elder son Salman Khan, daughters Alvira Khan Agnihotri and Arpita Khan, along with actor Aayush Sharma, were seen arriving at the hospital. Salman Khan left his shooting schedule in Madh Island to be with his father, who has reportedly been experiencing swelling.
Salim Khan began his career in Mumbai during the 1950s, initially working as a film extra and supporting actor. Although his acting career was brief, it paved the way for his successful transition into screenwriting. In the late 1960s, he teamed up with Javed Akhtar, forming the legendary duo Salim-Javed, which became one of the most influential screenwriting partnerships in Indian cinema.
From 1971 to 1982, they penned numerous commercially successful and culturally significant films, such as Andaz, Seeta Aur Geeta, Zanjeer, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Deewaar, Sholay, Trishul, Don, and Kaala Patthar. Their contributions significantly shaped the narrative style of Hindi commercial cinema, characterized by compelling stories, memorable dialogues, and strong male leads.
