New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments: India has taken a big step towards taking Artificial Intelligence to the common people. India AI Impact Summit 2026 Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology at the inauguration ceremony of Ashwini Vaishnaw ‘New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments’ Announced. This initiative is considered a historic step towards promoting inclusive, multilingual and responsible AI at the global level.
The future of AI is for humans, by humans
Addressing the summit, Minister Ashwini Vaishnav described India’s AI strategy as based on democratization, mass expansion and technological sovereignty. He said that India is working together on five layers of AI stack: Application, Model, Compute, Talent and Energy, so that it can be used in health, agriculture, education and public services.
In his address he said, “AI is a foundational technology. It is already transforming how we work, learn, and make decisions. Our Honorable Prime Minister believes that the true value of technology lies in ensuring that its benefits reach the masses. Our Prime Minister’s vision is to democratise technology, deploy it at scale, and make it accessible to all. That is why in India we are working on all five layers of the AI stack. Once we honestly harness the benefits of AI, we must also find collective solutions for mitigating risks. By placing human safety and dignity at the heart of AI, we can move forward with conviction. Let us shape an AI future of the humans, by the humans, and for the humans,”
What are New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments?
These voluntary commitments aim to ensure that the development and use of AI is consistent with equity, cultural diversity and real needs, particularly for countries in the Global South. The initiative includes companies from India such as Sarvam, BharatGen, Gnani.ai and Soket as well as global AI companies.
First commitment: understanding the impact of AI in the real world
“Advancing Understanding of Real-World AI Usage” Under this, companies will analyze, based on anonymized and aggregated data, what impact AI is having on jobs, skills, productivity and the economy. This will help governments in policy making.
Second commitment: Promote multilingual and local AI
“Strengthening Multilingual and Contextual Evaluations” The focus is to ensure the effectiveness of AI systems in different languages and cultural contexts. Under this, data sets and benchmarks will be prepared for under-represented languages, so that every category can get quality AI experience.
Shared responsibility of government, industry and research
The Minister stressed that collaboration between government, industry and the research community is necessary so that AI works in the service of humanity. This initiative is a strong step towards establishing India as a global hub for inclusive and responsible AI development.
