India's Commitment to Combat Climate Change: A Call for Collective Responsibility

The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, emphasized on Thursday that climate change poses the most significant threat to the world. He stated that while the government is taking steps to address this issue, the responsibility of safeguarding the planet also lies with the public. Speaking to the media, Chouhan remarked that climate change has emerged as a critical challenge globally. Many nations have already committed to taking action against the dangers posed by climate change, and the government is actively working in this direction. He further mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set specific targets for the country regarding this issue.

The minister stressed that ensuring the safety of future generations is a shared responsibility between the government and society, stating, "It is not solely the government's duty; protecting this planet for future generations is also a societal obligation." Meanwhile, India has significantly increased its financial commitment to combat climate change, with spending on climate action rising from 3.7% of GDP six years ago to approximately 5.6% today. These figures were shared by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during a town hall in Munich, Germany, on February 14, titled 'Degree of Instability: Climate Security in a Warming World.'




She emphasized that India is not merely waiting for international assistance but is actively investing its resources to meet environmental goals. Prime Minister Modi has initiated several programs aimed at conserving natural resources during his tenure, including Mission Climate, Mission Life, One Tree in the Name of Mother, and Amrit Sarovar. On January 14, he addressed an event related to Pongal, where he highlighted that protecting nature for future generations is among the "highest priorities."

The Prime Minister stated that safeguarding soil, conserving water, and balanced resource utilization are among today's most pressing needs. Initiatives like Mission Life, One Tree in the Name of Mother, and Amrit Sarovar are advancing this vision. The central government remains committed to empowering farmers with unwavering dedication.
