A family-run ice cream company has gone into liquidation after trading for 125 years. Di Rollo Ice Cream in Musselburgh, near Edinburgh, was established in 1899 by Domenico di Rollo, who travelled from Italy to Scotland where he opened a small ice cream shop.
The business continued to grow until it came under the ownership of Syn3rgy Capital in 2024. The directors of the company have now appointed AAB Business & Tax Advisory as liquidator. Elaine Di Rollo said her own business remains open for business.
The shop, Elena Di Rollo, in Musselburgh, is not affiliated to Di Rollo Ice Cream (UK) Ltd. It is open for business as usual.
Ms Di Rollo told The Herald: "We continue to serve the people of Musselburgh with luxury chocolates, coffees, cakes and delicious ice cream."
She thanked customers for their continued custom and support, adding: "It's so sad and worrying to see well rooted independent businesses folding in the area."
The businesswoman, whose grandfather was Di Rollo's founder, said it was "imperative" locals support independent businesses to give them the "best chance" of survival.
Her comments came after the closure of Strawberry Corner Garden Centre, which traded in Musselburgh for over 30 years.
In a post on social media, Ms Di Rollo said: "It has been lovely to see just how much Di Rollo ice cream (the product) has been loved by so many people over the years."

Duncan Raggett from AAB Business & Tax Advisory said he was undertaking his statutory duties and investigations into the Di Rollo Ice Cream (UK) Ltd.'s assets and helping employees with their claims to the Redundancy Payments Service.
He said: "Creditors will be updated on progress in line with the usual statutory reporting timeframe."
Di Rollo Ice Cream (UK) Ltd. and AAB Business & Tax Advisory have been approached for further comment.
