Tezzbuzz Desk- Keeping in mind the demand for both convenience and security in digital payments, PhonePe has launched a new biometric authentication feature. Now users will be able to make payments up to Rs 5,000 directly using their face ID or fingerprint, without the need to enter the UPI PIN every time.
The new feature of PhonePe aims to make small transactions like grocery, petrol, cab booking etc. faster and easier. This will save users from the hassle of typing PIN again and again and will also reduce the risk of privacy.
Features highlights
PIN is not required for transactions up to Rs 5,000.
Making payments through Face ID or fingerprint is as easy as unlocking the phone.
PIN will still be required for large transactions.
Available only on devices that support fingerprint or face unlock.
PhonePe has clarified that biometric information remains safe only in the phone and is not shared anywhere else. If for some reason fingerprint or face does not work, users can make payment through PIN as usual. Payments head Deep Agrawal said that this feature is to increase convenience, not to reduce security.
Easy steps to start the feature
- Update your PhonePe app.
- Go to the profile section and select ‘Security’ or ‘Setup Biometric’.
- Register fingerprint or Face ID in the phone.
- Next time while making payment, select the option of ‘Use Biometric’.
