Igor Tudor gives emphatic response to Tottenham's Premier League relegation fears
Football | February 21, 2026 4:39 AM CST

Igor Tudor has vowed to keep Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The Lilywhites have been dragged into a relegation battle this season after a disastrous start to the new year.

Spurs have failed to win each of their last eight games in the English top-flight, losing four and drawing four. Tottenham have fallen to 16th in the table, and just five points separate them from the bottom three.

Tudor, who was appointed as interim head coach earlier this week, has been tasked with steering Spurs to safety. Speaking to reporters at Hotspur Way on Friday afternoon, the Croatian was asked if Tottenham will be in the Premier League next term.

"100 per cent," he replied, without hesitation. Then, on whether he's enjoyed his first couple of days in the job, Tudor said: "I didn't enjoy because I'm not here to enjoy. I'm here to work. It's the first moment and there's work to do. It's a privilege to be here."

Tudor helped Marseille and Juventus qualify for the Champions League in 2023 and 2025, respectively, shortly after getting his feet under the table. The 47-year-old also had a strong finish to the Serie A with Lazio in 2024, securing a place in the Europa League.

On how healways makes an immediate impact at clubs, he said: "I do my job. Nothing special. I do the things I believe is important. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Each coach has his own style to achieve the results. I have my style which I believe is the best. It’s never the same because there are always different characteristics, different clubs and different culture. Not even of the league but the club.

"Some clubs like this kind of football, some like this. You need to resolve the problems. Everywhere the problems, if you go to the best clubs in the world you believe there are not problems there but there are problems there like in the third division.

"It’s all about how you resolve the problems in a very quick time. Not easy but it’s okay."

Upon his arrival at Hotspur Way earlier this week, Tudor acknowledged the task at hand. He said: "Of course, I'm coming here knowing the situation is not easy, there's no time to find excuses.

"What I said from the first day here, each of us, each of the players, need to give something, something more, something extra, because the position of the club at this moment is not that anybody can accept.

"Every fan of Tottenham cannot accept the situation. We are aware of that, but it's not enough to just be aware of that. I like to be positive, I like to play offensive football.

"Of course, that's my first goal I have, that I like to score the goal, but in the same way, for sure, I need to give organisation in defence, give the clear structure of what you want to play."
