Indian equity benchmarks ended higher on February 20, with frontline indices extending gains in the final hour of trade. The Nifty 50 closed above the 25,550 mark, while the Sensex also finished firmly in positive territory.
The BSE Sensex rose 316.57 points, or 0.38%, to settle at 82,814.71. The Nifty 50 advanced 116.90 points, or 0.46%, to close at 25,571.25.
Among the top gainers on the Nifty 50, Hindalco Industries led the chart, ending 3.3% higher at ₹935.7. NTPC followed with a 2.7% gain to close at ₹373.0. Larsen & Toubro added 2.3%, settling at ₹4,380.6.
SBI Life Insurance Company rose 1.8% to close at ₹2,080.0, while Coal India also gained 1.8%, ending at ₹423.6. Hindustan Unilever moved up 1.5% to ₹2,314.5.
In the power and energy space, Power Grid Corporation of India advanced 1.5% to ₹299.0, and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation gained 1.5% to close at ₹278.7.
Metal stocks also featured among the gainers, with Tata Steel rising 1.4% to ₹208.4. Bharat Electronics rounded off the list, closing 1.3% higher at ₹441.2.
The broader trend remained positive through the session, with buying interest visible across metals, power, energy, and select large-cap names.
