WhatsApp introduced Group Message History feature in its messaging platform. This feature allows new group members to see old messages. Under this facility, group administrators can share 25 to 100 old messages with new members, making it easier for the group to understand past conversations.
According to the company, the process of sharing message history is not automatic and this option is completely under administrator control. Admin can disable this feature if necessary. This setting is designed to prioritize user privacy and control.
The option to share message history will be available to administrators when adding a new member to the group. When history is shared, all members of the group receive a notification. Shared messages are marked separately from regular chats and also show a timestamp and sender details.
Through this feature, new members of the group can easily understand the past discussions, the company said. This makes it possible to get the latest information quickly and reduces the need to search for old messages separately. The company said that through this feature the aim is to make the group chat experience more transparent and under control.
