WhatsApp has begun rolling out a group message history feature. This feature makes it easier for new members to view past chats. It allows group admins and members to share past chats with newly joined users, eliminating the need for screenshots or selecting and forwarding individual messages. WhatsApp has confirmed that this feature is fully end-to-end encrypted and follows the same privacy standards as individual and group messages.
How the New Feature Works
Whenever a new member is added to a group, admins and group members will see a Share Recent Messages option. This option allows users to share 25, 50, 75, and 100 messages. This feature allows for recent messages to be shared. Users will not be able to share their entire chat history.
The company designed this feature to be clear and transparent. Shared chats will be visible separately within the group. They will include the time of the chat and the sender's name. All users receive a notification when a chat message is shared, making it viewable by all users.
Admins have special power.
Sending messages is not automatic. This feature must always be manually activated when a new member joins. Group admins have the power to disable this feature for all members. However, admins can use this feature at any time.
WhatsApp says that the group message history feature is being rolled out in phases. It is possible that this feature will be available to all users in the coming days.
