Return to TMC after four years

Biswas, a former player of the Indian football team, was associated with Trinamool for a long time. TMC had given him ticket in the 2016 assembly elections and he became MLA by winning from Basirhat South seat. However, the party leadership did not give him a ticket in the 2021 assembly elections.

Angered by this, Biswas joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before the 2021 elections. But BJP also did not give him ticket to contest the elections. However, he was made a permanent member of the state committee of the party. Despite this, he left the BJP within a few months and sent his resignation to the then state BJP president Dilip Ghosh and the party office. Now after four years, Biswas has again returned to Trinamool.

On Sunday, the party leadership officially inducted him into TMC in Basirhat. After joining, Biswas admitted that his decision to leave TMC was wrong. He said that I became a football player after struggling a lot, so the struggle always remains with me. It was my mistake to leave the party and join another party.

Why did you decide to return to TMC?

The former MLA also explained why he decided to return. He said, ‘I am a supporter of the development work being done by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Basirhat, that is why I have come back to Trinamool Congress.’ When he was asked whether he would contest the assembly elections again, he said that whatever responsibility the party gives me, I will fulfill it.
