Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand has once again taken a turn. Since Sunday, light rain and snowfall have been recorded in the mountainous regions, bringing back the chill.

The Meteorological Center has predicted that this change will continue today, February 23, with chances of rain in several districts and snowfall in areas above 3,000 meters.

Snowfall on higher peaks on Sunday

On Sunday afternoon, snowfall began on the higher peaks, while rain was recorded in the lower valleys. This sudden change has caused a drop in temperatures, making the cold return to the mountains. The relief from the recent warmth has been welcomed by locals, but travelers are being advised to remain cautious.

Snowfall on Famous Peaks

Snowfall has already started on well-known peaks such as Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib. Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri also witnessed cloudy skies, with light rain in some places. In Pithoragarh district, rain and snowfall have led to a noticeable fall in temperature, adding to the winter chill.

Rain Chances in Key Districts

According to the Meteorological Center, light rain is expected today in isolated areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. Snowfall is likely in higher regions above 3,000 meters. This pattern may continue tomorrow as well, keeping the weather variable across the state.

Drop in Minimum Temperature

In Dehradun and surrounding areas, Sunday morning began with mild sunshine. However, clouds appeared by afternoon, and chilly winds in the evening increased the cold. Today, partly cloudy skies are expected, which may cause a further drop in the minimum temperature.

Advisory for Travelers

The Meteorological Department has advised people traveling to high-altitude regions to carry warm clothing and remain alert. Sudden changes in weather can make conditions difficult, especially in areas where snowfall is heavy.

Return of Winter Chill

The recent rain and snowfall have brought back the winter chill to the mountains. While the plains may experience mild weather, the higher regions are once again under the grip of cold winds and falling temperatures.

This shift in weather highlights the unpredictable nature of the Himalayan climate. For residents, it is a reminder to stay prepared, and for visitors, it is a call to travel responsibly with proper gear.
