Before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, there has been a split in the opposition united ‘India Alliance’. Internal tussle has started in the alliance, starting with the issue of leadership of the state between DMK and Congress. This statement has been given by party leader and state Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on behalf of DMK. Udhayanidhi Stalin is the son of Chief Minister MK Stalin.
Udhayanidhi Stalin said in the statement that Chief Minister MK Stalin should lead the fight against BJP. He said that leaders of other states are urging his father MK Stalin to lead the democratic fight against the BJP.

Actually, this statement of Udhayanidhi has come after the discussions in which many opposition leaders had insisted for a change in the leadership of the India Alliance. This clearly means that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is not ready for this work.

Addressing a gathering in Tamil Nadu, Udhayanidhi Stalin said that MK Stalin is setting an example in both politics and governance. He said, ‘Leaders from other states are now urging our leader to lead the democratic fight against BJP.’
What are the political implications?
This statement of Udhayanidhi has come amid the ongoing seat-sharing talks between DMK and Congress before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. However, the change in leadership in the state and Udhayanidhi’s statements merely appear to be pressure being created to get more seats.
Earlier, former MP Mani Shankar Aiyar had said in a statement that if the India Alliance has to be kept alive, then Trinamool Congress President Mamata Banerjee should be handed over its command. However, Congress has now distanced itself from Mani Shankar Aiyar.
Iyer said, ‘Without Mamta Didi, all the ‘I’, ‘N’, ‘D’, ‘I’, ‘A’ of the India alliance will disappear. Because Mamata Banerjee is the leader of this alliance. He also said that DMK and Samajwadi Party leaders can also play a leading role. Earlier, Iyer had said that Stalin is the best leader to unite the India alliance.
