
Lucknow, 23 February. A horrific road accident took place in Lucknow on Monday afternoon, when a double-decker sleeper coach bus going to Bihar overturned at the Purvanchal Expressway toll plaza in Gosaiganj area. Seven passengers died in this accident while more than 40 people were injured. The injured have been sent to the hospital. Police and disaster forces are engaged in relief and rescue work. Top officers including Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant have reached the spot.
According to the information received, the bus was going from Panipat to Araria (Bihar). A high-speed sleeper bus went out of control and overturned on the Purvanchal Expressway at around 4.30 pm in Jaukhandi village of Gosaiganj in Lucknow. There was chaos after the horrific road accident. It is being told that the bus went out of control due to the driver falling asleep and the accident occurred. After the information, the policemen reached the spot and somehow rescued the people trapped in the bus. Later, with the help of a crane, the damaged bus was lifted and removed to the roadside.
So far, seven people have been reported killed in the accident. More than 40 people are said to be injured. The seriously injured were referred from CHC Gosaiganj to KGMU Trauma Centre. Additional ambulance was dispatched from the headquarters.
Accident investigation started
The district administration has sent the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem and investigation into the entire matter has been started. Police are also investigating whether apart from the alleged negligence of the driver, any technical fault was the reason for the accident. After the accident, traffic on the route was disrupted for some time, which was later smoothed out.
