Emmerdale has delivered a welcome update on young Evan Fletcher, with the toddler returning to screens, leaving viewers thrilled.

Regular watchers of the ITV soap will recall that Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) and his ex-wife Dawn (Olivia Bromley) welcomed a baby boy in 2023, who was diagnosed with leukaemia less than a year after his birth.

The long-running drama rarely addresses updates regarding the diagnosis; however, on Friday (February 20), Billy and Dawn referenced their son's serious illness for the first time in quite some time, finally giving fans the news they had been waiting for.

The former couple spoke about their son, confirming that Evan's treatment for blood cancer is proving successful. Whilst discussing the children and their divorce, Billy asked Dawn: "Do we tell them about Evan's treatment working?"

Dawn replied: "Yeah. I mean, I think we should tell them together. It's pretty monumental news, isn't it?", reports the Daily Star.

During Monday's episode (February 23), Evan made his return to the village in a scene alongside his mum Dawn and step-grandmother Kim Tate (Claire King) at Home Farm.

"I feel like I can enjoy him being a normal toddler, you know, not a toddler going through leukemia", Dawn told Kim as Evan sat on the sofa and enjoyed a snack.

Dawn also revealed that her conditional divorce order from Billy had been finalised, leaving her free to pursue her flourishing romance with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).

Emmerdale viewers were left astonished as Evan, portrayed by Malachi McKenzie, appeared as a fully grown toddler, having seemingly "grown so quickly".

On X, one person wrote: "I didn't even know Evan could walk yet, he was a babe in arms last time we saw him #Emmerdale."

A second chimed in: "Finally Evan appears, good news but feel like they have not done much with the storyline. #emmerdale", whilst a third added: "A Baby Evan appearance! He's gotten so big. #Emmerdale @emmerdale."

A different fan said: "A rare sighting of Evan? Next time we'll see him, he'll be 15 #Emmerdale."

"Aww we finally get to see Evan. He's so cute", penned one viewer on Facebook as another stated: "Grew up so fast."

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX
