Five men have been found guilty after a violent attack that left a woman and a teenage girl with severe burn injuries. Another five men admitted their roles in the incidents, which unfolded in December 2021.

After an 11-week hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, Det Con Howard Davies of Staffordshire Police said: "This was a horrific ordeal for a mother to be set on fire in her own home in front of her daughter by a number of men seeking revenge."

All five men convicted following the trial have been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.

Staffordshire Police said trouble began on the afternoon of December 16, 2021, when Naveed Hussain, 32, Bilal Ahmed, 26, Kashif Ahmed, 25, and Ali Abbas, 22 - all from Stoke-on-Trent - were involved in a fight on Kildare Street in Longton.

During the fight, Kashif Ahmed suffered a stab wound to his shoulder and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Later that evening, just before 11pm, a group of men went to a property on Beverley Drive in the Bentilee area, demanding to speak to Hussain.

According to police, the attackers smashed downstairs windows before pouring petrol inside the hallway near the front door and outside by the living room window.

A 31-year-old woman inside the house was struck on the head and then set alight, sustaining burns to 65% of her body. At the time, her injuries were so severe that she was not expected to survive and remained in a coma for two months.

She did survive, but has been left with life-changing injuries that require ongoing medical care.

A 13-year-old girl also suffered burns to 15% of her right arm and right leg.

The pair managed to escape by smashing an upstairs window and jumping from the property. In doing so, the woman sustained a broken pelvis, broken ribs and a lacerated liver. She later had to learn to walk again.
