Delhi government is planning to launch ‘eBike Didi Scheme’. This is a new initiative in which trained women riders will be deployed on electric two-wheelers to provide safe, last-mile connectivity especially to female tourists and commuters. Focusing on major tourist hubs like Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Chandni Chowk and Humayun’s Tomb, the service will connect these places to nearby metro stations, addressing women’s safety concerns and promoting green mobility and reducing air pollution.
The proposal, which is currently under consultation and yet to be finalized, will be implemented through the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) in partnership with Bharat Taxi—a cooperative ride-hailing platform launched in February 2026. Based on the existing MoU for cab services, the scheme aims to add an e-bike booking option on the Bharat Taxi app to enable female passengers to choose female riders. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the ‘Sarthi Didi’ feature, emphasizing its role in empowering women drivers and ensuring safe travel for women passengers.
Eligibility for riders includes residence in Delhi, age 18-40 years and valid driving license. The government is considering providing subsidy or financial help to women to buy electric bikes. Major measures include structured training in road safety, vehicle maintenance and customer interaction; GPS tracking required for rides; And includes thorough background verification.
A pilot phase is expected in high-traffic tourist zones, which will be expanded based on performance and feedback. By providing affordable, reliable and eco-friendly alternatives to cabs or autos, the initiative aims to boost women’s economic participation, increase tourist confidence and support Delhi’s sustainable urban transport goals. Further approvals and details are awaited.
