Toll Tax Refund: Significant relief has arrived for travelers traveling from Mumbai to Pune. On February 3rd, a gas tanker accident near Khopoli caused a massive traffic jam on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The situation was so dire that vehicles were stuck for nearly 32 hours. Thousands of families were stranded on the road, and people faced difficulties even in getting food and water.
During this period, the administration had issued clear instructions not to charge toll fees from vehicles stuck in the traffic jam. However, due to technical reasons, many people's FASTags were deducted. Now, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has taken a major step in this matter. The department has announced that travelers who were charged toll that day will receive a full refund.
According to officials, approximately 1.2 lakh vehicles will benefit from this decision. A total of approximately ₹5.16 crore will be refunded. This refund is not limited to the expressway alone, but also includes tolls collected on the Pune-Bengaluru Highway. Toll operating company IRB Infrastructure has been asked to provide records of all vehicles that were charged despite the order. According to reports, this amount will be transferred directly to the FASTag accounts of the individuals involved within a week.
When is the toll refunded?
It should be noted that in certain circumstances, there is a right to a refund. For example,
If a major traffic jam or administrative order blocks the road, the toll may be waived or refunded.
If a malfunction in the FASTag machine results in an incorrect deduction, a complaint can be filed.
Similarly, if an excess fee is deducted due to the wrong vehicle category being entered, a refund is also available.
Sometimes, money is deducted without the toll having been crossed, or it is deducted twice at the same location. Refunds are also available in such situations.
