Chandra Grahan 2026: On Holi or on the day of Holika Dahan… when will the first lunar eclipse of the year occur? clear up confusion

Chandra Grahan 2026: Lunar eclipse is considered a special event in astronomy. This happens when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, because due to this the sunlight does not reach the Moon directly and the Earth's shadow covers the Moon. Lunar eclipse is considered a very important time from religious and astrological point of view. The time of eclipse is considered inauspicious. Lunar eclipse always occurs on the day of Purnima Tithi.

This year too, the first lunar eclipse of the year is going to occur next i.e. in the month of March. This lunar eclipse is going to occur in Leo and Purva Phalguni constellation. This will be the longest lunar eclipse of the year, which will last for 03 hours 27 minutes, but people are confused about when will the first lunar eclipse occur on Holi or on the day of Holika Dahan? Because the full moon of Phalgun month is for two days this year and the holy festival of Holi is celebrated for two days. In such a situation, let us know on which day the lunar eclipse will occur?

When is Phalgun Purnima 2026?

According to the Panchang, this year Phalgun Purnima Tithi will start on March 02 at 05:55 pm. This date will end at 05:07 pm on March 03. In such a situation, this year Phalgun Purnima will be on 03 March.

Lunar eclipse will occur on the day of Holika Dahan

This year, a lunar eclipse will also occur on March 3. However, there will be no change in the date of Holika Dahan due to the eclipse. On March 03, the eclipse will last from 03:20 pm to 06:47 pm, but keeping in mind the eclipse and Bhadra period, the time from 06:48 pm to 08:50 pm on March 03 will be right for Holika Dahan.

Holi with colors will be held on 4th March

This year, Holi with colors i.e. Dhulendi is going to be played on 4 March 2026, because according to the Panchang, Holi with colors is played on the Pratipada date of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month.
