Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are finishing up a whirlwind trip of Jordan after being invited to the region by the World Health Organization’s (WHO) director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu, to learn more over a two-day trip about the tireless humanitarian efforts happening in the region.

On the first day of their visit, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex undertook several engagements, joining in a roundtable discussion with the WHO before visiting a refugee camp and speaking with displaced Syrians and Palestinians who have sought sanctuary in Jordan. While their trip focused on their philanthropic efforts, eagle-eyed royal watchers noticed a glaring missing detail of Meghan’s appearance.

It seems that the Duchess of Sussex opted to leave her glitzy engagement ring at home, simply opting for a thin gold band on her wedding finger instead. In fact, it seems she left most of her jewellery at home, with just her wedding band and Cartier Love Bracelet spotted with on the trip.

Meghan’s engagement ring has been tweaked several times since she had Harry announced their plans to get married in 2017. Initially, when Meghan debuted her ring it featured a massive cushion cut diamond as the centre piece, which experts estimated to be worth £120,000. This main stone was from Botswana, where the couple had one of their first dates, and so had a massive sentimental meaning for the pair.

It was flanked by two smaller diamonds, both from the late Princess Diana's collection, adding to the emotional meaning behind the ring, and set on a timeless yellow gold band. In 2019, the same year their first child Archie was born, Meghan’s ring underwent its first upgrade, replacing the gold band with a diamond pavé band.

In 2022, Meghan's ring underwent another serious upgrade. Expert Neil Dutta, of engagement ring specialists Angelic Diamonds, said: "We saw another subtle yet impactful change to Meghan's ring. Additional diamonds were added to the central stone setting, debuting at the Invictus Games in The Hague. This enhancement likely boosted the ring's value to approximately £250,000.”

Most recently, in the trailer for Meghan's Netflix show With Love, Meghan in 2024, another tweak was spotted, bringing the reported cost of all these adjustments to £130,000. "The most recent iteration of Meghan's engagement ring glimpsed in the Netflix trailer, showcases what appears to be an emerald-cut centre stone," the expert noted.

During the second day of Harry and Meghan’s Jordan trip, with Meghan still not sporting her engagement ring, the couple stopped off for an emotional visit to a centre that helps addicts.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spoke to patients at the National Centre for Rehabilitation of Addicts, with Harry urging a group of recovered addicts to go back to their communities and help others, telling them: “There’s no shame in having an addiction.”

After chatting to one man who was addicted to drugs but is now a mentor at the centre, Harry said: “I want you guys to know there’s no shame in having an addiction, it stems from something else which is an emotional pain – you’re very, very brave to come here into hospital. Now what you need to do is use this experience and go back into your communities and help other people who are in a similar situation.”

During the visit the couple were invited to write messages of support, as Harry’s message on a sticky-note, left on a wall with others, read: “It’s ok to not be ok. Trust each other. Congratulations on your recovery. Now share your courage and experience.” His wife wrote in italic script: “Congratulations on your dedication to your care. Wishing you continued healing and happiness.”
