The day marks the birthday of Jnanpith award winning poet and writer Kusumagraj aka Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar. Hence, Marathi Language Pride Day is celebrated in Maharashtra. The objectives of Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din are to promote and preserve Marathi language, promote literature and create a sense of pride among Marathi speakers. Young writers, poets and students are inspired by appreciating the beauty of language. Apart from this, various programs are organized in different schools, colleges and other places in the state.
