Karun Chandhok, a former Indian Formula 1 driver, shared his exhilarating experience of driving Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull RB8 at the Buddh International Circuit, describing it as an unforgettable moment and a 'very special day.'
The RB8, which was piloted by Vettel to victory at the F1 Indian Grand Prix in Delhi NCR in 2012, played a crucial role in securing both the World Drivers' and Constructors' Championships that year.
In a post on X, Chandhok expressed his gratitude, stating, 'Awesome day at the Buddh International Circuit! I never imagined I would have the chance to drive an F1 car in India again, so a big thanks to @redbullindia for this special day in Sebastian Vettel's 2012 Indian GP - and Championship-winning - RB8.'
The Buddh International Circuit, which first hosted the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix in 2011, is a significant landmark in Indian motorsport. Chandhok's opportunity to drive Vettel's championship-winning car allowed him to reconnect with the legacy of one of F1's most celebrated vehicles while honoring his ties to his home track.
Possible Revival of the Indian Grand Prix
There have been recent discussions about the government's interest in reviving Formula 1 at the Buddh International Circuit, nearly thirteen years after the last race took place.
Sources from the Sports Ministry indicated earlier this month that a Formula 1 event in Greater Noida could be on the horizon. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya's recent visit to the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) suggests that plans to bring back the Indian Grand Prix may be in the works.
