Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has got a big relief in the alleged liquor policy matter. The Rouse Avenue Court has acquitted him and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia of corruption- charges. Kejriwal became emotional while talking to the media after the decision.
Kejriwal became emotional
He said, “We had already said that the truth will prevail. Today the truth has prevailed. I had full faith in the Indian justice system that justice will definitely be served.” He also alleged that his party was politically targeted and senior leaders were sent to jail on false charges.
Court’s strict comment, questions on CBI’s evidence
The court said in its decision that the investigating agency could not present sufficient and concrete evidence to prove the allegations. Many flaws were also found in the charge sheet and the allegations were not confirmed by any witness or document. The court made it clear that no one can be prosecuted merely on the basis of allegations without concrete evidence. A fair investigation is necessary for a fair trial, but in this case the prosecution failed to prove its case.
‘No criminal conspiracy proved’
The court also said that no concrete basis of criminal conspiracy was found in the allegations made by the CBI. Neither Kejriwal nor Sisodia could present direct evidence against him. For these reasons the court ordered the acquittal of both the leaders. After the verdict, AAP workers called it a victory of justice and truth.
