Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal’s wearable startup Temple is raising around ₹493 Cr from friends & families, including NK Squared (Nikhil and Nithin Kamath), and former Zomato backers such as Steadview Capital, Peak XV Partners, among others.

Deepinder himself will be infusing a little over ₹100 Cr in the funding round. As per sources, the post-money valuation of Temple would be ₹1,700 Cr ($187 Mn).

Following the funding round, Goyal will own a 29% stake in the startup. Questions sent to Temple didn’t elicit any response till the time of publishing this story.

Earlier today, Goyal said in a post on X that Temple is hiring for multiple roles. “At Temple, we are building the ultimate wearable for elite performance athletes. A device that measures what no other wearable in the world measures, with a level of precision that doesn’t exist yet,” Goyal said.

The website of Temple currently displays a message “Coming Soon”. It describes its device as a product that will measure “Brain Flow” – the blood flow to the brain.

The device will be built on Goyal’s biological research initiative Continue Research’s first hypothesis – Gravity Ageing. As per the hypothesis, gravity’s lifelong pull on blood circulation to the brain, Cerebral Blood Flow (CBF), may be a key reason behind the ageing of humans.

It suggests that when a human being stands or sits, gravity pulls blood away from the brain, reducing CBF by up to 17% in upright posture. Building on this, the device will measure the blood flow to the brain.

In November last year, Inc42 exclusively reported that Goyal was exploring launching a wearable device company‘Temple’.

Recently, Goyal also stepped down from the position of Group CEO of Zomato parent Eternal. He said the decision was driven by his desire to explore new, high-risk ideas that do not fit the scope or risk profile of a listed company like Eternal.

He has been working on multiple ventures for the past one year now, including LAT Aerospace and Continue Research. Earlier this week, LAT Aerospace acquired Sharang Shaktito foray into the defence tech segment.
