NCERT has issued a public recall for the Class 8 social science book "Exploring Society: India and Beyond - Part 2." The organization has asked individuals or organizations in possession of the book to return it immediately. Following the controversy, the Supreme Court imposed a complete ban on the book.

NCERT has issued a media advisory, urging all copies of the book to be returned to the Department of Education (DESS) or the Publications Division at its Sri Aurobindo Marg headquarters in New Delhi as soon as possible. Furthermore, any content related to the chapter "The Role of the Judiciary in Our Society" shared on social media or digital platforms has been asked to be removed immediately. The organization reiterated that the book has been withdrawn.

Supreme Court's Strict Order
On February 26, the Supreme Court imposed a complete ban on the publication, printing, sale, and digital dissemination of the book. The court directed the central government to immediately implement the order and stop its physical and online circulation.

On February 25, the court took suo motu cognizance and issued a show-cause notice to the NCERT Director and the Secretary of the School Education Department, asking them to show cause why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them.

The central government informed the court that 32 copies of the book had been sold and were being recalled. Following this, the Ministry of Education directed the Ministry of Electronics and IT and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to stop digital circulation and submit an action report by February 27, so that a compliance affidavit could be filed with the court.

The court also ordered action against those involved in the preparation of the book. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has assured that accountability will be fixed and appropriate action will be taken.
