WhatsApp Promoted Content: Taking a major step forward in the messaging world, WhatsApp has now launched Status ads and Promoted Channels worldwide. The company says this change aims to make it easier for users to discover new brands, businesses, and channels. It will also serve as a new way for companies to strengthen their presence on the platform.

Sponsored content was previously limited to a limited number of users, but now it has been implemented globally. The company shared this information on its official social media platform, X.

Status ads and Promoted Channels will appear in the Updates tab.

New ads and Promoted Channels will appear in the Updates section of the app, where Status and Channels already exist. These ads will appear between normal Status posts with a clear label to help users understand that this is promotional content.

If users wish, they can easily skip these ads by swiping away like other status ads. The company claims that this feature is designed to allow those viewing new updates to discover brands and organizations right there.

Personal Chats Will Not Be Affected

The company has clarified that this change will be limited to the Updates tab only. Private chats, calls, and personal status will remain protected by end-to-end encryption, as before. This means that these ads will not affect your private conversations.

Users Will Have Control

If a user is bothered by recurring ads, they can block or hide the relevant business. This way, users will maintain control over what appears in the Updates tab.

The company may also offer an ad-free subscription option in select regions, including some European countries. Under this plan, ads will be removed from the Updates section, although pricing and availability may vary by region.

New feature added to group chats

In addition to advertising, WhatsApp is rapidly expanding its feature set. Recently, the company added a feature called Group Chat History, allowing new members to understand the gist of past conversations after joining.

Group admins or members can now share 25 to a maximum of 100 past messages with new members in a structured manner. Previously, this wasn't the case, and new users could only see messages sent after joining.

According to the company, when past chat history is shared, all members are notified, with the time and sender information clearly visible.
