New Delhi, March 2. The impact of increasing tension in the Middle East is now clearly visible on international air travel. Some countries, including Iraq and Iran, have closed their airspace due to security reasons. Due to this, many international flights have had to be canceled and many aircraft have to take longer routes. On March 1, more than 3,400 flights were canceled worldwide. Due to closure of airspace, planes have to go over other countries, due to which flights are getting delayed and ticket prices have also increased.
Impact on Indian Airlines
Major airlines of India have also been affected by this. Air India and Air India Express have canceled around 50 international flights. Apart from the previously announced flights, Air India has also canceled several international services for March 1. These include Mumbai, London (Heathrow), Delhi-Birmingham, Delhi-Amsterdam, Delhi-Zurich, Delhi-Milan, Delhi-Vienna, Bengaluru-London (Heathrow), Delhi-Copenhagen, Delhi-London (Heathrow) and Delhi-Frankfurt routes.
The airline has apologized for the inconvenience and said affected passengers are being informed on their registered mobile numbers. Passengers are being given the facility of re-booking or refund. Indigo has said that passengers whose flights have been canceled can take a full refund or book on another date without any extra charges.
