The Punjab government has released figures marking one year of its anti-drug campaign titled “Yudh Nashe Ke Virudh,” highlighting enforcement actions taken between March 2025 and February 2026. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann shared details of the drive, describing it as an intensified effort to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating in the state.
According to the data presented, a total of 36,178 First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered during the one-year period. Law enforcement agencies also reported the arrest of 51,648 individuals allegedly linked to drug trafficking activities. The figures suggest a sustained crackdown targeting both distribution chains and local supply networks. Seizure statistics released alongside the enforcement data indicate that 2,277 kilograms of heroin were recovered over the course of the campaign. In addition, more than 4.9 million intoxicant tablets and capsules were confiscated.
Authorities also reported the recovery of ₹16.70 crore believed to be proceeds connected to illegal narcotics trade. The campaign has been framed as part of a broader zero-tolerance policy toward narcotics-related offenses. Officials state that enforcement operations were carried out across multiple districts, with coordinated actions involving state police and specialized anti-narcotics units. The reported numbers represent one of the most extensive enforcement phases against drug networks in Punjab in recent years.
Punjab has long faced challenges related to substance abuse and cross-border narcotics trafficking. The latest data provides a quantitative snapshot of enforcement activity under the ongoing campaign, though independent assessments of long-term impact, conviction rates, and rehabilitation outcomes are yet to be detailed.
State authorities have indicated that the anti-drug drive will continue beyond its first year, with a focus on disrupting supply chains and preventing the circulation of synthetic drugs and heroin. Further updates on investigations and prosecution outcomes are expected as cases registered during the campaign proceed through the legal system.
