Mercedes-Benz has brought the V-Class luxury MPV back to the market after a four-year gap. Priced uniformly at Rs 1.4 crore, ex-showroom, for both petrol and diesel variants, the new V-Class targets a specific set of high-net-worth buyers. These are customers who prioritise interior space and headroom over traditional luxury sedans.
By introducing the extra-long wheelbase version and loading it with modern features, the carmaker is positioning this MPV as an alternative to its own S-Class, as well as high-end people movers like the Toyota Vellfire and Lexus LM. To keep the pricing relatively viable in what is essentially a low-volume niche segment, Mercedes has opted for local assembly at its Pune plant.
Size And Boxy Styling
The most noticeable aspect of the new V-Class is its sheer size. The vehicle measures over 5.3 metres in length and sits on a massive 3.4-metre wheelbase, making it one of the largest passenger cars on sale today. To give it some visual appeal and justify the price tag, Mercedes has equipped the exterior with the AMG line body package as standard.
The front gets an illuminated gloss black grille alongside large bi-projector headlamps. On the sides, the upright, boxy shape features 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and large sliding doors that make getting in and out easier in tight parking spots. The rear section is flat and functional, with redesigned LED tail lamps that get a smoked finish. Buyers can choose from five metallic paint options, ranging from understated greys to Sodalite Blue.
Built For The Back Seat
Inside, the cabin layout makes it clear that this vehicle is meant to be chauffeur-driven. The extra-long wheelbase creates significant legroom, allowing for flexible seating arrangements. Buyers can opt for either a four-seat or a six-seat cabin layout. The second row features large recliner chairs with extendable leg rests and integrated ambient lighting. If more space is needed, the third-row seats can be removed entirely or set up to face either forward or backward.
The front and second-row seats are powered, ventilated, and come with massage functions. Unusually for this segment, the third-row seats also feature ventilation, which helps during long trips. Up front, the dashboard has been reworked to include a dual-screen setup, featuring two 12.3-inch displays for the instruments and infotainment. The feature list also includes a 15-speaker Burmester sound system, heat-insulating glass, wireless chargers, dual-zone climate control, and 64-colour ambient lighting.
Petrol And Diesel Options
Mercedes offers the V-Class with two distinct engine options. The V300 petrol variant uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with a mild-hybrid system. This engine makes 231 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque, while the electric motor provides a brief boost of 20 horsepower and 200 Nm under hard acceleration.
For those who prefer diesel, the V300d variant uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces 237 horsepower and 500 Nm of peak torque. Both engines send power to the wheels through a nine-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Safety equipment includes seven airbags, a 360-degree parking camera, driver drowsiness detection, electronic stability control, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. With its focus on interior space and rear-seat comfort, the new V-Class is aimed directly at buyers who want the experience of a mobile boardroom.
