Novorossiysk, Russia’s key Black Sea oil export hub, has reportedly suspended oil loading operations at its critical Sheskharis terminal after a large-scale Ukrainian drone strike overnight on March 1-2, 2026. The attack sparked fires, damaged infrastructure, and added further strain to Russia’s energy export logistics amid the ongoing conflict.

What Happened in the Attack?

In the early hours of March 2, 2026, multiple Ukrainian drones targeted the port city of Novorossiysk in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai region. Local authorities declared a state of emergency as explosions rocked the area starting around 10:50 PM local time on March 1.

The Russian side described it as a “massive” overnight drone assault, with the heaviest impacts in Novorossiysk.

The Sheskharis terminal is one of southern Russia’s largest oil and petroleum product transshipment facilities. It handles crude oil exports (including grades like Urals), petroleum products, and plays a major role in loading operations for both Russian and Kazakh oil via pipelines such as the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) route.
