There's nothing more infuriating than spotting a Labour MP's name in the schedule for a morning TV show because there's one thing you'll know for sure - you'll be left with more questions than answers. They're trying so desperately hard to toe the line that they almost never say their own actual opinion, it's a constant game of question dodging. Which begs one question in particular, why bother going on the show if you're not actually going to say anything? It's a mistake that isn't making them look good to anybody.
I guess to answer my own question it's because, as usual, they're there to pump the narrative they want to pump and avoid any questions that they may not want to answer; the questions that the public so clearly want an answer to. It started with Keir Starmer last month avoiding questions asked to him by Naga Munchetty on BBC Breakfast. But then on Monday (March 2), Yvette Cooper couldn't stop dodging questions put to her by Susanna Reid, and it's a pattern I'm seeing way too much.
This morning, Cooper was questioned on Keir Starmer giving permission for the US to use UK air bases to execute a strike on Iran. Susanna was solo in her questioning because sat beside her was none other than Ed Balls, who is married to the MP - don't even get me started on why she's booked to come in on days where he's at work. But as Susanna kicked off her line of questioning, Cooper just kept repeating herself, prompting the host to say: "You've said that, you've said that. So we don't know what the plan is long-term."
Last month, Naga asked Starmer on his thoughts about various topics, including Reform UK's plan to revoke the Equality Act if they were to gain power, but Naga specifically asked Starmer about a concern that white working class boys have the worst outcomes at school; he ignored the question and ranted about the call to revoke the Equality Act. Why are we having these MPs come on the shows only for them to not answer the questions?
It's infuriating, the hosts are trying to speak for the public, but even they're getting ignored. Which begs the question, if we have TV presenters who are well-known public figures who aren't getting their questions answered, what chance do the rest of us have? It's the same thing every day, and it's only going against them in the polls. People have lost faith in Labour despite a previous landslide victory and we've seen this by the win of the Green Party in Gorton and Denton last week, and it's because of their own mistakes.
When countless MPs are going on TV and talking about their beliefs, policies and what they're hoping to see change, but we can't get it from the party currently in charge, it's obviously going to put off voters. Labour are currently digging their own grave, and it's like they're not even attempting to climb back out.
