Neil Warnock has joked that he’s 'surprised' he's not been approached by two Premier League clubs ahead of his return to management. The 77-year-old is set to be in the dugout for Torquay United on Tuesday night for the National League South clash against Farnborough.
His appointment as interim boss comes after the sacking of Paul Wotton following Torquay’s 5-0 home loss against Chelmsford City on Saturday. Warnock had been working as the club's management advisor since May 2024.
He announced his retirement from management just two months earlier after completing a short spell with Scottish side Aberdeen. Warnock became known as somewhat of a firefighter for clubs in need.

Speaking in a press conference, he jokingly pointed to two jobs where he could have been called upon. "It's a surprise for me to be here today," he said.
"I thought I would have been at Tottenham or [Nottingham] Forest or somewhere like that. I could do a better job, but they never asked me."
Both Premier League clubs have recently been on the lookout for a manager as they look to move away from the relegation zone.
Tottenham have appointed Igor Jesus as interim boss, while Forest replaced Sean Dyche with Vitor Pereira, although they have both struggled in their early days at their respective clubs.
For Warnock, the focus is on getting a new manager bounce of his own at Torquay.
"I know I'm at an age where people don't normally get managerial jobs, but I've enjoyed this morning like I've been here all year," he said. "It's lovely to be back with the players, they keep you young.
"It makes you realise how much you miss it," he said about returning to the training pitch.
"You know, being at the training ground this morning, you can't replicate that camaraderie with the players, no matter what you do. You can do TalkSport, Sky TV and all that, but it doesn't replicate it."
