India has secured a place in the semi-finals in the T20 World Cup 2026. After which former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Aamir is being trolled fiercely on social media. In the Super-8 match played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday, March 1, India defeated West Indies by 5 wickets and achieved the challenging target of 196 runs with 4 balls remaining. This victory not only showed the depth of India’s batting, but also proved Aamir’s earlier statement completely wrong.
Before the match, Aamir had made the claim in a show. It doesn’t matter whether Pakistan qualifies or not, certainly not India. His statement went quite viral, but India gave a strong response on the field. Now fans are trolling Aamir fiercely on social media by reminding him of this statement.

India created history
With this victory, India registered the biggest successful chase in T20 World Cup history. Also achieved the biggest successful run chase till date in T20 International at Eden Gardens. The Super-8 started with a crushing defeat by 76 runs against South Africa, but after that the team made a great comeback. After defeating Zimbabwe at the Wankhede Stadium, this win against West Indies brought a semi-final ticket for India.
This win also reminds of the semi-finals of the 2016 T20 World Cup, when West Indies defeated India at Wankhede in Mumbai. This time India washed away the old memories in Kolkata and completed the revenge in record breaking style.
Sanju Samson’s explosive innings
While chasing the target, India suffered initial setbacks. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan were out cheaply in the powerplay and the score was 41/2. After this, Sanju Samson presented an example of amazing patience and excellent batting. He played an incredible inning of 97 runs in just 50 balls, which included 12 fours and 4 sixes.
Samson made a partnership of 58 runs with Suryakumar Yadav, who took charge of the innings. Later Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dubey made small contributions. Samson remained unbeaten and India achieved the target in 19.2 overs. When 7 runs were needed in the last over, Samson hit a six on the leg side off Romario Shepherd and then ended the match by playing the winning shot over mid-on on the next ball.
Now Samson will try to maintain this form when India take on Harry Brook’s England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, March 5.
