In Lakhimpur Khiri, a 28-year-old man named Ayush has been apprehended by the police for allegedly raping the 41-year-old wife of his employer. The victim, who has been undergoing treatment for depression, was often in a deep sleep due to medication, which the accused exploited to commit his crimes.
Discovery of the Crime
According to reports, the incident came to light on February 13 when the woman skipped her medication and caught the accused in the act. When she resisted, he threatened her life, prompting her to file a complaint with the police on February 23. The police arrested Ayush on February 25.
Exploitation of Vulnerability
The victim revealed in her complaint that she had been battling depression for a long time and was on heavy medication, which caused her to sleep deeply. Ayush, who worked at her husband's shop and assisted with household chores, took advantage of her vulnerable state to repeatedly assault her, believing she would remain unaware.
Confrontation and Legal Action
A turning point occurred on February 13 when the woman had not taken her medication. When Ayush attempted to assault her again, she managed to catch him and strongly opposed his actions. Realizing he was caught, Ayush threatened her to remain silent. However, the victim bravely shared her ordeal with her husband, leading to police intervention and subsequent action.
Police Response
According to Pankaj Tripathi, the SHO of Palia, a case has been registered under Section 64 (rape) and Section 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS. The police acted swiftly, apprehending Ayush on February 25. Investigations into other aspects of the case are ongoing to ensure justice for the victim, who is currently receiving support.
